Red Dead Redemption 2 is 2018’s Top Selling Game – NPD Group

Red Dead Redemption 2 was the best-selling game of 2018. This comes from a report released by NPD Group’s Mat Piscatella. Interestingly though, Rockstar’s open-world western could not beat Super Smash Bros. Ultimate during its launch month in December. Ultimate got top 5 in the top sellers chart. Call of Duty Black Ops 4 came in second, but Piscatella noted on Twitter that they did not track the game’s PC digital sales and that “made all the difference to the rankings”.


Demon’s Souls Creator Doesn’t Want to Remaster the Game, But He’d be OK with Another Studio Doing It

Demon’s Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki says that he’d be OK with the game getting a remaster. It however seems that he doesn’t really want to do it himself. In an interview with Game Informer, he said that he doesn’t like to look at his previous works. But, if there was “a studio that really loved the original work” that wanted to “put their heart and soul” into a remaster, then it might be something Miyazaki would enjoy. It’s really up to publisher Sony though. Still, we can’t help but hope.


BioWare Wants to Make a New KOTOR Game but EA Won’t Let Them

The Knights of the Old Republic games were the pinnacle of Star Wars games once upon a time, maybe even until now. However, it seems a revival most likely won’t be happening anytime soon. BioWare has approached EA multiple times asking permission to make a new KOTOR game. Unfortunately, each time they got shot down according to Kotaku’s Jason Schreier. Meanwhile, every EA Star Wars game has caused disappointment to fans of the franchise in one way or another.


Conarium is Coming to Consoles in February

First-person survival horror game Conarium is headed to the Xbox One and PS4. The game released on Steam back in June of 2017, and will now become the first Iceberg Interactive release that will launch on both consoles at the same time. The game will run at different resolutions on both premium versions of the consoles, but it’ll be really hard to tell the difference. Conarium is a Lovecraft-inspired tale about four scientists who go beyond the limits of nature. It releases on consoles come February 12th.


Resident Evil 2 Demo was Downloaded 3 Million Times, but Only 26% Completed It

In the excruciatingly long wait for Resident Evil 2’s release, the good people at Capcom made the wait a little more bearable by releasing a 1-Shot demo. It proved so popular that it has been downloaded over three million times. What you might be surprised to learn though is that only about twenty-six percent actually completed the demo. Residentevil.net tracked over 2.4 million of the over 3 million who downloaded, together with their playtime and other stats. Was the demo really that hard?


Blizzard Reveals 2019 eSports Plans for World of Warcraft

Blizzard recently announced that the Arena World Championship returns this year, and will be open to everyone with a larger prize pool. The World Championships is tailored to pit the best players against each other after a year of fighting. There will be two regions, the North American and European region. Each Region will have two seasons, and six cups, each with a large prize pool of $10,000 every season. Lastly, the top four point earners from each season will compete for a $100,000 prize pool.


Far Cry New Dawn Has Gone Gold

Ubisoft’s technical director, Raphaël Parent recently posted a celebratory tweet in which he boasts about Far Cry: New Dawn acquiring gold status. A Gold status means that the game’s production is complete, and it’s ready for shipping. He shared how proud he was at the game’s continued success. He added that developing the game was a joyous experience and that he hopes the players enjoy the game as much as he enjoyed making it. Far Cry: New Dawn is due out on February 15, 2019 for PC, Xbox One and PS4 .


NetherRealm is Not Developing Mortal Kombat 11 for the Switch

Recently Mortal Kombat 11 producer, Trevor Traub revealed that NetherRealm is not developing a Nintendo Switch port for Mortal Kombat 11. He explained the port is supposedly being developed by Shiver Studios instead. In the interview the producer provided a rationale of sorts, he spoke to “special geometry reductions” which we assume means reducing the graphical fidelity in some way. In any case, on April 23, 2019, the game will be released for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS4, and PC.


Life is Strange 2: Episode 2 Launches This Week

Square Enix recently shared a new trailer for Life is Strange 2: Episode 2 ahead of its January 24 release. The trailer gives a quick synopsis of things to expect in Episode 2. The developers are urging the players to be cognizant that there are potential spoilers in the trailer so watch at your own risk. The episode will be released for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Players who purchase the Complete Season will receive the ‘Arcadia Bay’ patch bundle.


Shadow of the Tomb Raider: The Nightmare Out Now

The latest DLC adventures for Shadow of the Tomb Raider, The Nightmare, is now available. The developers have made it a free download for those who possess a Season Pass. Players will have to purchase the DLC otherwise. The Nightmare is playable on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Enjoy the new customization options with the Scales of Q outfit that offers added protection. Play as Lara Croft as she ventures through The Nightmare to confront familiar enemies and fallen friends.


Metro Exodus Publisher Not Worrying About Same Release Date as Crackdown and Far Cry

Deep Silver’s head of global brand management Huw Beynon expressed that he is not concerned by the fact that Metro Exodus shares a release date with other juggernauts in the gaming world. February 15 not only marks the date for these big releases but also serves as a battleground for Crackdown, Metro Exodus, and Far Cry. When questioned about expected performance, Beynon said “Let’s wait and see.” Players admire the confidence exhibited which now urges them to look forward to the date even more.


Anthem Demo Pre-Load Now Available

EA has made the Anthem demo client available to download on all platforms. This is news for players who would like to get their downloads started early. However, you will not be able to play until the serves go live. PC players can download from the Anthem store page, while PS4 players can download their copies through the PlayStation Store. Xbox One players can download the demo from Microsoft Store. The VIP demo goes live on January 25th, while the open demo will be available to everyone on February 1st.


New Street Fighter Pro League Will Use 3-on-3 Format

The official Street Fighter Twitter account posted a tweet that states the new Professional Street Fighter League will be using a 3-on-3 Teams Format. The top players from this year’s Capcom Pro Tour will be the team captains. Secondary players will compete in online qualifiers to secure a spot. The third spot will be occupied players selected by the fighting game community. The North American Street Fighter Pro League is on course to commence in April of 2019.


PlayStation Now Expands to Europe, Public Beta Announced

PlayStation Now will be expanding to include more European countries. This is scheduled to launch this year with a public beta happening in February. This is very good news for gamers who reside in Spain, Italy, Portugal, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Sweden. PlayStation Now will not be launching instantly, instead, sign-ups have opened up for a public beta. Sony encourages players in said countries to sign-up for PlayStation Now for a chance at getting invited in when the beta officially begins.


Ion Maiden Gets a New Level

Ion Maiden’s latest update comes with an all new level called Heskel’s House of Horrors. The level is filled with blood-curdling imagery and an everlasting hail of bullets. Ion Maiden uses 2D sprites in favor of chunky polygons which come together to create a vintage nostalgic atmosphere. Join the lead character, Bombshell as she unloads bullets and grenades in combating a haunted abode. Heskel’s House of Horrors is currently available on Steam.


God of War Wins Big in the New York Game Awards 2019

At The New York Game Awards, God of War was crowned the one true king of all games in the past year. God of War garnered top honors for the year with the Big Apple Award for Game of the Year. This is no surprise to anyone who has had the luxury of playing, and or witnessing the game being played. Other titles won awards in their respective categories however, Red Dead Redemption 2, God of War, and Tetris Effect led a three-way tie for the most prizes of the night, with two awards each.


Farming Simulator Enters the eSports Scene

Giants Software has announced that its ridiculously popular game Farming Simulator will be entering the esports scene. The Farming Simulator League replaces the Farming Simulator Championship, which saw a successful run back in 2018. Farming Simulator League consists of 10 tournaments taking place across Europe with up to 280,000 Dollars up for grabs. Tournaments will also be held during major events such as Gamescom and Paris Games Week. More details on the league will be announced in the coming days.


Don’t Starve Together Roadmap Revealed

Klei Entertainment has a lot planned out for its popular game Don’t Starve Together. For 2019, the studio will be adding new content to the game, including “new lands with new biomes, creatures, and more.” The first drop is slated to arrive mid-April, then the rest will be rolled out every 2 months. The game’s characters will also undergo a refresh starting with Winona this March. New characters will also be added mid-March with the next ones added every 2 months as well. Black Ops 4’s Xbox One and PC Update Adds New Event and Zombies Gauntlet

A new update has rolled out for Call of Duty Black Ops 4 which brings Gauntlets and new Elixirs in Zombies mode, and Down But Not Out limited-time mode in Blackout, for PC and Xbox One. These were first rolled out in PS4 last week. On PS4, the update added a special 4-week event stream in the Black Market called Barbarians. This event adds 25 new loot tiers below the Operation Absolute Zero stream. A new featured playlist, called Chaos Domination, is also added to all platforms. Bug fixes and improvements were also included in this update.


Kingdom Come Deliverance DLC Band of Bastards Release Date Announced

The release date for Kingdom Come Deliverance’s third DLC Band of Bastards has been announced. The expansion is set to launch on February 5th. Band of Bastards tasks players into dispatching bandit marauders who have been causing problems in the region. Sir Radzig Kobyla hired mercenaries to take care of them. Henry will be leading the pack into guiding these bandits across the region. Band of Bastards will be followed by A Woman’s Lot which is expected to launch mid-2019.


Wargroove Launches on Nintendo Switch on February 1st

Wargroove, the turn-based strategy game from Chucklefish, is set for launch in early February. The game will be launching on Steam, Nintendo Switch, and the Xbox One on February 1st. Its release for the PlayStation 4 is yet to be announced. The game features a campaign as well as a co-op mode. It also comes with high-end editing tools which allows players to make their own in-game content.
